Sunday State of Mind: August 3rd-August 9th

Happy Sunday, everyone. Please enjoy this journey back in time on the week that was in sports in this week’s SSM.

At the time of this blog, the PGA Championship is still live
DJ, Finau, Scheffler…who will survive?
To be completely honest, the most important thing though
Is the continued trolling, of Bryson DeChambeau

The Cubs and Cardinals, cancelled this weekend
St. Louis’ COVID positives have gone off the deep end
It’s the best rivalry in baseball, there’s no debate
Yankees/Red Sox? Giants/Dodgers? Not that great.

This week us NBA fans lost a good one
76ers standout Ben Simmons is done
According to this tweet, Ben had a left knee subluxation
He left the NBA Bubble, on a surgical vacation

Connor McGregor is engaged! The Notorious MMA.
Asked his girlfriend of 12 years, announced on Saturday
Seems like Connor’s enjoying his “retirement” so far
Engaged and staying out of trouble, no hitting old men in bars

Sunday State of Mind: July 27th-August 2nd

Happy Sunday, dear readers…gently glide into your Sunday evening with this week’s SSM.

Bad news first, in the MLB
COVID is spreading, Miami and St. Louie
The Marlins and Cardinals, positive tests aplenty
Cardinals with six, Marlins with upwards of twenty

The list of NFL opt outs continues to grow
The pandemic drags on, and players won’t show
The Lions previewed, what may be the future of locker rooms
Hopefully this and other precautions work, as football season looms

Some non-pandemic news, from the NFL
Patrick Mahomes roots in KC further fell
The Super Bowl MVP, now part owner of the Royals
Ten year football contract and baseball team ownership, can’t say the man’s not loyal

The NBA is back, and in full swing
Full schedule and no positive testing, a beautiful thing
It seems in the bubble, things are going pretty well
The Association is thriving, while baseball is going to hell

Sunday State of Mind: July 20th-July 26th

Hello friends…please enjoy this week’s SSM on this beautiful, warm Sunday.

We finally made it, baseball is here
Opening week, a reason to cheer
It’s a whole different ballgame, pardon the pun
No fans in the stands, but watching is still fun

We keep adding sports, here comes the NBA
No more scrimmages, real games start Thursday
Jazz vs. Pels and Clippers vs. Lakers
I’m riding with LeBron and AD, any bet takers?

Big Ten football, hit hard with COVID19 this week
Michigan State and Rutgers quarantining, no leaks
The Spartans and Scarlet Knights, have to get it fixed
If team-wide quarantines keep happening, season’s going to get nixed

The offensive line of the Kansas City Chiefs
Lost their starting right guard, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif
Not only a football player, he’s also a doctor
He’s decided to treat patients, over being a pass & run blocker

Sunday State of Mind (SSM): June 22nd-June 28th

SSM is back in a big way this week. We are glad to be back serving up some shitty poetry about this week in sports.

So please, sit back, settle in, and enjoy this week’s SSM…

Just like the blog, baseball is back
We can’t believe our ears
There likely will not be any fans in stadiums
Still, a reason for plenty of beers

Our best American export Christian Pulisic
Beautiful I must say
Thriving in the EPL
Usually not done by someone from the ‘ol U-S of A

The Texas Rangers released, photos of Globe Life Park
It’s only fair to ask, did they build it in the dark?
It looks like a toolbox that I built in eighth grade metal shop class
An abuse on the eyes, the park is simply crass

Jay Cutler became 2020’s social media hero
Incredible response to an account who’s usage rate was close to zero
Documenting catching who’s eating his chickens, our dear, sweet Cutty
The guy is totally endearing, I wish he could be my buddy

Sunday State of Mind (SSM): May 18th-May 24th

Sit back, settle in, and enjoy this week’s SSM…

Tiger, Peyton, Phil, and Tom
“The Match: Champions for Charity”
Phil loves to say he’s “hitting bombs”
Tiger and Peyton cruised to victory

Baseball’s trying to get itself back
Agreement between owners and players, is something we lack
COVID testing, ballpark locations, revenue splits
Need it solved soon so we can start popping mitts

Potentially closer than baseball, the NBA
Woj Bombs dropping, we’re on the way!
The league could resume at the Wild World of Sports
When the league comes back, they better bring Jorts

Ryan Fitzpatrick had a chat
Square hair, square beard, both ends flat
He’s had a great career, and it’s not quite over
But change is coming; Fitzmagic to Tagovailoa

Sunday State of Mind (SSM): May 10th-May 17th

Recurring blog alert! What I’m going to try and do here is throw together a stupid soliloquy on the previous week in sports at the end of each week. Ideally, I’m hoping to have these done by the end of the sports day each Sunday, hence the title.

So sit back, light some incense (or whatever you choose to light that relaxes you, UDS is a judgement free zone), and enjoy some sports serenity with this week’s Sunday State of Mind (SSM):

TaylorMade Driving Relief
Live sports, thank God, good grief
Rory and DJ took out Rickie and Matt
Went to a closest to the pin playoff
Rory stuck it on the pin, splat

UFC on ESPN: Overeem vs. Harris
Dana White continues to put on events, even if it’s careless
The undercard featured six bouts, and the main card five
Live sports are live sports, I suppose, glad they’re somewhat alive

The return of the Bundesliga
Some fútbol for the lads
Borussia Mönchengladbach took out Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1
A result, I believe, we all had

NASCAR came back as well
With Kevin Harvick taking first
I need live sports back so bad right now
Watching cars turn left even quenched my thirst
